Carolina | What I once considered a small town is now part of a region that offers an amazing quality of life

My first impression of Terneuzen was simple: "It's small."

After growing up in a city of more than three million people and moving to the Netherlands to study at TU/e Eindhoven, it took me some time to appreciate what Zeeland had to offer. When I moved to Terneuzen 13 years ago, I saw mainly what was missing compared to a big city.

Today, I see it completely differently.

What I once considered a small town is now part of a region that offers an amazing quality of life. Zeeland gives me peace, nature, and space, while cities such as Ghent, Antwerp, Goes, and Middelburg are all within easy reach. Instead of feeling limited, I feel connected to a much larger area full of opportunities.

I love taking walks around the Otheense Kreek and the Western Scheldt, enjoying the changing seasons and beautiful views. In summer, you'll often find me exploring the coastal towns and beaches. My husband and I are also enthusiastic food lovers, and Zeeland has surprised us with some wonderful restaurants over the years.

Perhaps what I appreciate most is the balance. Living in the Netherlands allows me to have a fulfilling career in a multinational company while still having plenty of time for family, friends, and the things I enjoy outside of work.

Fifteen years after arriving in the Netherlands, and thirteen years after moving to Terneuzen, Zeeland is no longer just the place where I live. It is home.
