“Zeeuws-Vlaanderen is in you and never leaves.”

I have the honor of writing the first blog. I am Ellen van Troost, since the beginning of this year project secretary of onbegrensdzeeuwsvlaanderen. In 2003, my husband, daughters, and I returned to Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. I had left the region at eighteen to study in Leiden. After my studies, I moved to Rotterdam. Twenty years in Leiden and Rotterdam were a wonderful adventure. Our children grew up in an old city neighborhood as true little Rotterdammers, and we enjoyed the cultural life in the Randstad.

Zeeuws-Vlaanderen is in you and never leaves. My desire to return grew stronger and stronger. It took some effort to convince my husband—who is also from Zeeuws-Vlaanderen—but the decision was made. Almost twenty years later, I can say that this was a very good decision. By coming to live here, I was able to further develop myself. To my surprise, everything I did in the city, I could also do here. In fact, there were even more opportunities for me here, because I could put my work experience from the city to good use and build on it further. A very creative period began for me. With my own business and a holiday cottage that we rented out. So I have personally experienced the slogan of onbegrensdzeeuwsvlaanderen, and I am experiencing it again now with this wonderful new job as project secretary of onbegrensdzeeuwsvlaanderen.
