Municipality of Terneuzen launches information brochure for international workers
The municipality of Terneuzen has created an information brochure for international workers. The brochure contains practical information about living, working, and life in the municipality. The brochure is available in eight languages. On Thursday, September 3, the brochure was launched.
Alderman Jeroen de Buck and Emanuela Hermes from Zeeland International Center / Work in NL information point presented the first copy to the board of the Pol-Net foundation. They are committed to building a bridge between the Polish and Dutch communities in the region. They can use the brochure to inform their target group about living, working, and life in Terneuzen. Alderman Jeroen de Buck: "International workers make an important contribution to our municipality. That is why it is good that they receive clear information. With this brochure, we help new residents find their way in Terneuzen. That is good for themselves and for the people around them. The brochure is part of a broader plan with which we want to ensure that everyone can live together well in our municipality."
Good information helps
Many international workers live and work in our region. It is expected that this group will grow in the coming years. International workers are important for the local economy and for maintaining facilities. Good information helps people find their way. It also helps to prevent problems in neighborhoods as much as possible. The new brochure provides answers to practical questions. For example, about registering with the municipality, waste disposal, housing requirements, and noise regulations.
We also want to get to know each other better. The municipality of Terneuzen previously launched, together with several partners, the campaign Working Together for Tomorrow. In this campaign, you meet various people who feel at home here. Soon, we will share these stories again on our socials.
Action plan
The information brochure is part of the 'Action Plan for Housing International Workers' of the municipality of Terneuzen. This plan is not only about providing information. It is also about good housing, clear rules, supervision, and cooperation with partners. The municipality wants international workers to be able to live safely and healthily in Terneuzen. At the same time, the municipality wants to prevent nuisance for other residents.
"With this brochure, we are taking a new step in welcoming and properly informing international workers. People
who come here from abroad to live and work have a lot to arrange. The brochure provides a handy overview of the rights and obligations, which they can calmly read in their own language," says Emanuela Hermes, advisor at Zeeland International Center / Work in NL information point.
Distribution
The municipality distributes the brochure through various channels. International workers receive the brochure, among other things, when registering in the Personal Records Database. Zeeland International Center also hands out the brochure during meetings with international workers. In addition, the municipality asks housing providers to give the brochure to new and temporary residents.
