Zeeland International Day
For the third year in a row, the Zeeland International Center (ZIC) organized a meeting and information event for internationals in Zeeland. This year, the Zeeland International Day took place in the Grote Kerk in Goes. Together with Ton van Tilburg from the GrensInformatiePunt, we answered questions from international students and employees.
Enthusiastic about the region
This year, we met many international students. They enthusiastically shared about the courses they are taking. They are looking for information about companies in the region for when they finish their studies.
They are interested in companies in process engineering, water management, and healthcare. Working for a municipality or an educational institution also appeals to them. We highlighted our website with the vacancies from the Zeeland job bank and used our network to properly inform these students about the possibilities.
Looking for suitable and affordable housing
Finding suitable housing was an important topic of conversation this day. Young professionals are struggling with high house prices for buying a home and are looking for rental options. We pointed out the possibilities to register with housing corporations and private landlords.
Where do you meet each other?
International employees in particular are looking for opportunities to meet each other. An event like the Zeeland International Day brings them together. Many visitors indicated that they need more contact. And that is not always easy. As OnbegrensdZeeuwsVlaanderen, together with ZIC and youth organization Rootzz, we want to organize accessible meetups in the municipality of Terneuzen for international students and employees.
Still much to discover in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen
What stood out was that students at HZ do not yet know the sights of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen very well. So it is nice to inform them. A cycling map of the municipality of Sluis with routes along the North Sea coast was enthusiastically received. We highlighted Grenspark Groot Saefthinge in East Zeeuws-Vlaanderen and a visit to the Nieuwe Sluis in Terneuzen.
